January Rings in New Resolutions

January brings many things, the New Year, a new semester, and New Year’s resolutions. As the beginning of Spring Semester approaches many students are reflecting on their goals for the year.
Approximately 45 percent of Americans consistently make New Year’s resolutions while 38 percent do not; the remaining 17 percent occasionally make resolutions. Self-improvement and education resolutions are most common followed by weight, money, and relationship goals.
Statistics show that 39 percent of people in their twenties are successful with their resolution each year, while only 14 percent of people over 50 will achieve their goal.
Within the first week of a new year 25 percent of resolutions will already have been abandoned. Another week increases the deserted resolutions to 29 percent. By the time the year is halfway over 54 percent of resolutions will have been discarded.
