Help Yourself by Helping Others

Looking for something fun and worthwhile to do over Spring Break? If so, the UW Apartments Community Center is organizing a day trip to the Eppson Center in Laramie on Tuesday, March 18 to help give back to our community. The Eppson Center strives to improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of local senior citizens.
Volunteers will gather at the UW Apartments Community Center at 10:30 a.m. We will leave for the Eppson Center at 10:45 a.m. Transportation will be provided. At the senior center we will help serve lunch, and then bus tables and clean the Eppson Center’s dining room. After the service project, we will return to the Community Center and enjoy a nice catered lunch of sandwiches by McAlister’s.
What are some of the benefits of this trip? First, community service is a great item to list on any résumé or application for jobs as well as scholarships. Employers are always looking for charitable employees and it shows that you go above and beyond your expected duties. Secondly, giving back to your community and performing community service is a great stress reliever – something that all of us need during Spring Break after the hectic and busy midterms. Finally, after preforming community service, people usually feel better and happier.
If you are interested in volunteering for this service project, please email Mary at mbargdil@uwyo.edu or Jordan at jjungck1@uwyo.edu. The deadline to sign up is Friday, March 14.
