Why Become an ALA?

The Apartment Living Assistant (ALA) position is for full time University of Wyoming students who want to get involved and take on a leadership role. ALAs serve as a community resource for all of the University of Wyoming Apartments. There is still an informational session left! You must attend one to be interviewed. The last one will be Thursday February 19, 2015 at 7:30 in the Downey Hall Conference Room. These information sessions usually have at least two ALA’s and numerous RA’s there to answer any questions you might have.

Some information you might not get from the information sessions would be the specific duties of an ALA. We need to be familiar with leases in case any resident in the apartments has a question. We handle the check-ins and checkouts of all apartments when that time comes and also serve on an on call rotation which is from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and 24 hours on the weekend. We also work 9-10 hours a week at the desk serving as a resource. We also put on one large program each a semester for our residents and reoccurring programs that happen at least once a month.

The application can be found at http://www.uwyo.edu/reslife-dining/halls/ra.html. The interviews will be held on February 27th, 28th, and March 1st (if needed). Friday night will consist of a mandatory group process session which is where you will demonstrate your abilities to work as a team by participating in a variety of activities. Saturday February 28th and possibly March 1st will consist of individual interviews which are scheduled for 45 minutes. These interviews will be held with a Professional staff member, Resident Coordinator (RC), Graduate Resident Coordinator (GRC), Assistant Property Manager (APM) or Property Manager (PM). There will also be a student staff member in each interview whether it is an RA or ALA.

If you have any questions about the process or the job duties please feel free to contact the apartment’s office at 307-766-3176 or alaapts@uwyo.edu. You can also contact Rian Rabideau at rrabidea@uwyo.edu.
