Programs This Semester: February and March

The new semester has started and, with that, a host of new programs and events that all residents can enjoy. Make sure to put these fun and exciting new events on your calendar.

Mardi Gras

When: February 21st 6-8 p.m.

Where: Community Center

Come escape the winter blues with a Mardi Gras celebration at the Community Center. The jazz music will be swinging, and there will be traditional Cajun food fare including gumbo, crawfish, and King’s cake. This is your chance to become the King or Queen of Mardi Gras! Come decked out in your finest, or goofiest, Mardi Gras costume and make a mask at the event for your chance to pose for a selfie at the photo booth as well as a chance to win some awesome prizes like a wireless speaker set, Blu-ray player, and Starbucks. Enjoy a night of Ne  w Orleans fun, with a little bit of everything but the Bayou.

Open Mic Night

When: March 28th 8-10 p.m.

Where: Community Center

Whether you are the next Beyoncé, John Lennon, rising YouTube star, or just enjoy sharing your artistic gifts, come share your talent at the UW Apartment’s first ever Open Mic Night at the Community Center. You can sing a song, play an instrument, recite poetry, and tell jokes. The only limits are your imagination.

If you aren’t quite feeling like America’s Got Talent, feel free to sip good coffee at the coffee bar that will be offered while cheering on your fellow residents. You won’t want to miss this diverse show, jam packed into two hours of fun.

March Madness

When: Early March

Where: Community Center

You might have escaped from the flu, or even the common cold, this winter, but there is no escaping March Madness! Show off your bracket by stopping at the front desk in early March at the Community Center for our March Madness competition. If your bracket is a slam dunk, expect a prize at the final game in April, which will also be shown at the Community Center. Final dates are to be determined.

Kid’s Day

When: February 28th, March 14th, and March 28th at 2 p.m.

Where: To Be Determined at each event

Whether you are one of our younger residents, or just a kid at heart, be sure to come out to our Kid’s Day with experiments, crafts, and games. February 28th, we will have a Mardi Gras celebration! This is a great time to try King’s cake. You will also be able to make masks, play games, and watch Disney’s Princess and the Frog. On March 14th, celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with us with story time with Horton Hears a Who, The Lorax, and making Lorax related crafts like a flower pot and truffula trees. We will also be showing Horton Hears a Who. On March 28th, it will be the time to give your biggest “RAWR” because it will be dinosaur day. There will be fossil making, volcanos erupting, and games.

Pinterest Party

When: March 1st at 2 p.m.

Where: Community Center

Don’t hold back now. Unleash your inner artist at the first Pinterest Party of the semester! It will be inspired by the “Pop Up Paint” parties, complete with all the supplies and mocktails. Be sure to sign up at the front desk at the community center in advance so we have the supplies ready for you. This will also be a great time to share what Pinterest crafts you have had your eyes on, and maybe it will become the craft of the month the near future.
